No official confirmation yet (expected tomorrow), but the Mazda Road to Indy did host their winter series at the 2.75 mile road course earlier this year.

As layouts go it’s alright – there doesn’t seem to be much in the way of spectator facilities though:

    It’s no Road America though…

Road America’s facilities aren’t that great either ;-) there’s also the matter of agreeing on the scheduling and financial aspects of the event. The NOLA layout isn’t amazing but I’d take this race over adding another street circuit.

Which configuration do you think they’ll use? I count 3. Perimeter, Short, and Long.

@ajokay judging by the home page of the track’s website, I’d be putting my money on this one: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=6294625
I do not like the look of the pit entry if it’s still in its state as seen in google maps, that building makes the road look very tight…

From the AP article: “Proposed track changes for the IndyCar race include a new pit entrance and wider, longer pit lane, as well as adding perimeter fencing and straightaway enhancements.”

Confirmed for April 12th on the 2015 Indycar schedule.

    From indycar.com:

A Verizon IndyCar Series race on a newly-configured 13-turn, 2.67-mile road course at NOLA Motorsports Park will debut in April as part of the 2015 season.

INDYCAR, NOLA Motorsports Park, local and state officials made the announcement during a news conference at the facility in Avondale, La., about 14 miles southwest of downtown New Orleans.

Good to see a new venue and location on the calendar which isn’t another street circuit. I wonder which of the many possible configurations they’ll use?

    NOLA

New venues are always welcome, but I find it difficult to get excited about this one. It looks like an overgrown kart track. Flat as a pancake, and totally featureless. It appears that the owners have bought a small plot of land and tried to fit as much tarmac into the space as possible, it’s all switchbacks.

As rickety and dangerous as Houston was, I prefer to watch the drivers dealing with the challenge of concrete barriers and a horrendous road surface than an aimless second gear bimble around a country park. And that’s speaking as someone who wants to see fewer street tracks in the series.

    Moan over.

13 corners. That’s a nice sensible amount. It looks good to me especially the 5-6-7 complex!
