Philippe Alliot

A French F3 star and F2 contender, Philippe Alliot came into Formula One with Ram in 1983. The car was slow and he failed to make a mark.

He spent a number of seasons in the nether regions of the grid before landing a drive with Larrousse for 1988. He was fortunate to survive a dramatic crash in Mexico where he made heavy contact with the pit wall and flipped.

He lost his full time ride at the end of 1991, but after a move to sports cars the following year he won the Le Mans 24 Hours for Peugeot. Alliot returned to Larrousse in 1994 as the team, the team now in financial dire straits.

His Peugeot connection got him a brief McLaren drive in place of the suspended Mika Hakkinen in 1994 but that was it for Formula One and it was back to sports cars where Alliot enjoyed success in the FIA GT series.
