Jehan Daruvala will join his 2022 Prema team mate Dennis Hauger at reigning Formula 2 champions MP Motorsport this year, claiming the final place on the grid.

MP took Felipe Drugovich to the championship last year, and also clinched the teams teams’ title. Daruvala will join MP for his fourth season in the category, racing alongside Hauger for a second consecutive season.

Daruvala drove for MP in the post-season F2 test in Abu Dhabi following the season-ending round at the Yas Marina circuit. He said he hopes to enjoy a similar level of performance in 2023 that the team had last season.

“I’m really pleased to be back in FIA Formula 2, and to be able to team up with MP Motorsport makes it extra special,” said Daruvala.

“Last year I was stunned by MP’s remarkably consistent front-running pace and in 2023 I hope to be the beneficiary of that myself. Together with Dennis, I’m confident that our combined experience and speed will contribute to MP fighting for wins once again.

The 24-year-old, who left Red Bull’s Junior Team at the end of last year, equalled his best performance in the championship in 2022 with seventh place in the championship. Daruvala scored a single victory in the Monza feature race.

His confirmation completes the 2023 Formula 2 grid. Out of the 22 seats, 10 drivers who competed last year have been replaced, including F1-bound Logan Sargeant.

  1. Wow, 2 drivers being teammates at 2 different teams in 2 consecutive seasons. Does that ever happen?

    1. 1993-1995 Jean Alesi and Gerhard Berger at Ferrari (3seasons), 1996-1997 they were driving for Benetton (2 seasons, although Berger not completed the second season, he missed a few races)
They were an epic pairing, with many funny stories:

      1. My other favourite story was from 1995 when their Ferrari was heading towards a rare and nice 1-2 result for the team, but a camera or mirror fell off Alesi’s car and broke Berger’s suspension, and a few laps after that Alesi had to stop with a wheel bearing failure. And all this at Monza, omg.

  2. Money talks…
