  1. Leclerc clearly fastest all the way through, and only lost due to strategic blunder.
Perez solid, but was never in contention for pole and binned it in Q3.
    So easy one – Leclerc!

  2. Arguably more strategy than anything, but still enjoyed seeing some passes being executed by Gasly which, along with other factors, saw him gain a few positions on a track where such things rarely happen.

    1. What! No “Lewis” votes? What a shame.

  3. Pity vote for leclerc, who did nothing wrong and only lost due to strategy, perez is the only other candidate that can win this poll and outperformed verstappen where it mattered this weekend, which is usually a tall order, it’s just I see no basis to say he did better than leclerc.

    1. If he was like Sainz he could won, a part of a driver is reading the track and relay that to the team.

I went for Lando myself he did great even in his condition.

Perez was the DotD not the weekend.

  4. Gasly for the pure masterclass after that painfull few milliseconds of yesterday’s.

Perez for me. Leclerc did well and was unlucky but we expected Ferrari to have the fastest car in Monaco. Perez won because of strategy but he gets my vote for out-pacing Verstappen all weekend. He binned it in Q3 but that’s what happens when you’re driving the car to it’s absolute limit. I don’t think it was a case of Max struggling – it was just that Perez was on it and it showed.

Hopefully he can keep it up and can challenge more regularly going forward.

    1. I’ve heard it was because perez prefers a set-up biased towards understeer which was optimal for rb this weekend. Assuming this correlates with high downforce hopefully we’ll see more races with perez in contention for the win in hungary/zandvoort/mexico. It’s nice to see a great driver who paid their midfield dues throughout the hybrid era finally get wins/podiums they deserve, hopefully we’ll see more examples moving forward

@realnigelmansell – Ah ok that’s interesting. Thanks for that.

It’s definitely good to see Perez on the pace with the leading pack and it’s great to see him bounce back after the previous race – many would have got demotivated and would have lost pace but he decided to fight and prove his worth.

  6. Sainz. He drove well all weekend and called his shot today. Perez a close 2nd as these 2 wingman deserve more love and credit.

    1. How can Sainz be DOW when he was consistently slower than his teammate and only lucked into contention for the win?

      1. Lucked? It was his call to change strategy and it paid off. Pace is not the only thing that determines your finishing position, and thanks to Sainz’s racecraft he finished probably two spots higher than he would have if he accepted the team strategy like Leclerc did.

      2. I think Sainz had some bad luck this weekend. In Q3 his first lap was compromised by MB and the second lap by Perez. In the race he made the call to change directly to dry tyres that would have been a race winning call but after his pitstop he got behind Albon who despite blue flags didn’t move out of the way, If he had won the race he would have been DOTW for me.

    2. And we all need to thank Sainz for keeping the WDC alive. If Sainz allowed Ferrari to decide, he would have been behind LEC with PER and VER up front. RB would have had them swap positions again giving VER a handy lead in the WDC.

    3. Sainz for me too. Him going in against his team almost meant victory to him.

Don’t know. Leclerc looked dominant and was probably robbed by strategy, but his team-mate Sainz seemed to have more input into his own strategy and finished ahead because of that. Perez was quick when it mattered in the race but stuffed it in the wall on Saturday, so can’t really give him points for qualifying ahead of Verstappen. Not really sure how good Norris or Russell were, as Ricciardo just isn’t on it and Hamilton’s final run got Perez’d in Q3. And I didn’t look at anyone further back and think ‘wow, you did well’.

Gave it to Perez purely because I was happy to see him win one.

    1. For me it’s a similar idea, Sainz was ahead of Leclerc almost certainly because he insisted on not pitting for inters but holding out for slicks @neilosjames, it seems Ferrari still might have waited a lap too long and getting him out behind the williams lost him the time he might have had to keep ahead of Perez.

Perez really seemed to be on the pace this weekend, but as you mention he also did crash in Q3. Norris was his self again, being fast, altough the strategy ended up losing him p5 to Russel, who again had the benefit of daring to go for a long first stint and waited exactly long enough to make that switch to hards last. Shame we did not get a bit more of a fight between those two, although I suspect Russel just slowed down towards the end since he did not expect Norris to catch him that fast. Both did well, but nothing extraordinary. I will give it to Sainz because of him being the one to insist on his strategy, but Perez would be my other choice.

Gasly earns a shoutout though for being really exciting to see getting through the field a bit with the early pitstop. But in the end it meant that group was not in the right place at the right time and that advance stalled.

  8. As a Ric fan, I am starting to believe he will not see the end of the season. would not surprise me if McLaren by some twist of fate put a rookie in for the next race.

  9. Went with Perez as he was fast all weekend. Messed up quali 3 yes but made up for it during race. Yes it was strategy that got him in front but he still had to make the strategy work and he did.

I was also tempted to go either Lando or George as they’re both dominating more experienced teammates in imperfect cars, both had solid grid spots and drove solid races. I’d love to see them in comparable machinery to Max and Charles, that would be a season!

  10. DOTW was surprisingly hard this time, but I ultimately went for PER, although choosing LEC would’ve been justified since he only lost via a strategic blunder rather than his doing.
For DOTD, PER is effectively the only viable option, with maybe honorable mentions to drivers in positions 5-7.

    1. Leclerc could have made the same call as Sainz so he could have done more. They played it safe and blew it.
