  1. Show some love for the #2 goat.

      Who?

      1. Gasly, apperently

        1. @cdfemke bottas duh, the greatest number 2 of all time.

Ah, that makes sense. The g#2oat, so to speak. Doesn’t quite roll off the tongue.

  2. Max was superb in the first corner and just because those seconds he deserves this. But, Checo drove more than 50 laps without letting Hamilton breath, no mistakes, and that helped Max to cruise to victory.

Gasly for me. He had a great weekend and got the most possible out of the car in both quali and the race. Max had a great start and race but it wasn’t the most challenging weekend he’s ever had. Lewis did well but was was out-qualified by Bottas. Bottas screwed his start up. Perez was beaten by Max….

  4. Very close between Checo and Max. The first corner pass by Max for me alongside his strong practice and weak Q3 performance was the deciding factor, although I feel P3 was the ideal starting position for him.

    1. How can a driver be driver of the weekend when his teammate beats him in both qualifying and the race? And by a huge margin in the race.

      1. Agreed it’s bizarre.
Max was easily driver if the weekend, or perhaps Gasly.

        1. Most here include a ‘likability’, ‘deservability’ or even ‘pity’ factor in awarding the DotW.

          1. I’m not sure why Perez always does so much better than he should in best driver polls, when he wasn’t near the top of the popularity list in the global fan survey. He won the official driver of the day poll in Bahrain, Portugal, Zandvoort and Mexico, despite being comprehensively beaten by Verstappen on all four occasions. The Portimao one is particularly bizarre. My vote here went to Gasly, with honourable mentions to Verstappen, Vettel, Hamilton and Raikkonen.

      2. Because he put up more of a fight and was more enjoyable to watch. But still in this case i don’t think that fits perez.

    2. It’s hard to say Checo or Max but i have to give it to Max as he didn’t fail in Q3 lifted up only while Checo went off.
But Also Gasly did a good job!

  5. Max and Gasly seems like the most promising candidates. Both had a fast car and both absolutely maximized their finishing positions.

Perhaps, Max drove better as he seemed to have his usual gap to Checo compared to Gasly who did not have his usual gap to Yuki (although that could be Yuki improving).

Difficult to say. But I think Max wins it from my side.

  6. Gasly had an excellent weekend.

Verstappen (or: Red Bull) didn’t nail qualifying, but had enough time in hand to frustrate Bottas’s FLap attempt at the end of the race (which I thought was smart and hilarious).

    1. Bottas did get fastest lap (although not the point for it, as he was outside of the top 10).

      1. Yes he did but only on the second attempt, when they brought him in again for another set of softs. Verstappen completely ruined the first attempt. It was actually pretty funny

      2. Did you watch the last 5 laps? Bottas got flap at the end, he pitted twice in 2 laps, verstappen by lapping him and letting him past ruined his first flap attempt at around 5 laps to go.

    Gasly for me.

Flawless Quali, flawless race, 4th place not really in doubt throughout.

Max was also very strong, but loses some marks for Quali

  8. DOTW: VER despite not taking pole, but DOTD: PER, with GAS as an honorable mention.

    1. Don’t see how perez can have done better than verstappen in the race, unless you make a reasoning of the type: over a race length he’s usually 30 sec behind verstappen, he was less than 20 sec behind, so he did better, that is however relativer performance to usual perez, he didn’t objectively do better than verstappen.

  9. Both Max and Lewis has very good weekends, but didn’t really maximise their qualifying. Pierre for me, but Max is a good choice as well.

  10. whenever you can vote for Kimi, always vote for Kimi

    1. @gosac

whenever you can vote for Kimi, always vote for Kimi

Yet only this weekend it’s a strong choice for DOTW. First time Kimi put it all together in both quali and race this season.

      1. Yes, I considered voting for him as well.

  11. Max was faultless in the race but botched qualifying. Gave it to Gasly. He’s just quietly getting the job done and putting that Alpha Tauri where it shouldn’t be. A solid if not lonely race.

  12. Verstappen, Gasly and Raikkonen for me – went for Kimi, as it’s perhaps the last chance I’ll get to vote for him.

  13. Gasly in terms of maximising his car’s potential. Verstappen was great on race day but quali takes the shine off slightly for me, even though there were mitigating circumstances.

  14. Gasly. Good qualifying, great race. Kept ahead of the Ferrari’s – who are arguably a little quicker than the AlphaTauri and quietly put in a very strong drive. Probably the best that car’s capable of doing.

    1. @rocketpanda

who are arguably a little quicker than the AlphaTauri

Were Ferrari really a little quicker than them this race? Maybe not just like Alpine definitively weren’t a little quicker than Alfa Romeo for the weekend, but somewhat slower. The fact that a car is usually faster over a season doesn’t necessarily imply that it was faster in a particular weekend, so maybe it was one of those AlphaTauri’s opportunities to shine, and Gasly successfully executed it, of course.

      1. Agree, although there’s maybe a slight possibility ferrari was up there with alpha, since this race sainz was faster than leclerc, who is normally on a higher level.

        1. Agree, although there’s maybe a slight possibility ferrari was up there with alpha, since this race sainz was faster than leclerc, who is normally on a higher level.

You do make a good point here, @esploratore1. Have you notice the way Sainz often makes some gains on Leclerc in trickier conditions? If it was only in quali it would be less scope for the latter to be concerned, but as it was over a whole weekend he should take some time to analyse it. Of course Sainz seems to always find a way to not allow the gap between the two get very big. They’re the two most evenly matched team-mates of all teams except maybe Alfa Romeo, in which Raikkonen didn’t quite step up yet as clearly the leader of their driving strengths but maybe it’s coming now, soon before he retires.

  15. Gasly for me. Great qualifying as usual. Superb race.

  16. Wow, verstappen and gasly tied at 35%, crazy competition! Wonder what happens if it ends up even! Glad to not see perez on top like on the dotd sky vote just cause he’s mexican.

  17. Gasly it is for me. Maximized both qualifying and race. Raikkonen was also very strong despite his two reprimands.
Verstappen drove perfectly in the race but didn’t nail qualifying.

  18. Gasly for me Too many voted for Perez. The redbull car was the no1 car here and he should have finished p2.

  19. I see the audience is more sensible here than the F1vote one who went in big numbers for Perez. Plus, all the cheers he got at the end from those around him (not talking about the crowd, which makes sense) is quite nonsensical to me. The voters here use a bit more sense, I guess. Afraid this has something to do with all the encouragement the F1 commission or whatever is called seem so gather each time they propose some nonsense that gets blasted on this site but somehow manages to appear as widely accepted to them

  20. So hard go pick. I am a Verstappen fan, but not because he is brilliant, but because watching him race is a joy to watch.

And all I watched all race was Perez taking on Hamilton. Man of the weekend for me as far as entertainment goes.
