Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton were fastest during first practice, with the Red Bull drivers close behind. However, during second practice Red Bull – or Max Verstappen, at least, seem to have the edge by a very large margin, more than four tenths ahead.

The midfield remains very tight as some crucial battles – between McLaren and Ferrari for third and Alpine and Alphatauri for fifth – play out in the final few races. Yuki Tsunoda, in particular, has show some serious pace since taking replacement power unit parts that mean he will start from the back of the grid in Mexico.

Lance Stroll will join him at the back of the grid, while Sebastian Vettel has made top ten times in both sessions.
