Renault have looked very competitive around Sochi during free practice, with Ricciardo beating Verstappen in both first and second practice to be ‘best of the rest’ behind the Mercedes.
Bottas has historically done well at Sochi and has topped both sessions but the Mercedes are both looking a bit squirrelly around the circuit, with Hamilton uncharacteristically suffering big lockups in both practice sessions.
Charles Leclerc took pole for Ferrari at last year’s Russian Grand Prix but hasn’t made the top ten in either session, while Vettel was running up with the Red Bulls and Racing Point cars during second practice.
