Incredible finish.
Massive blunder by Mercedes and Hamilton to make such a rookie mistake.

Best race in 2020!
No boring crap mercedes 1-2.

“Rules are there to protect the lives of marshals you need to respect the rules!” yet they use absolute rubbish technics to relay it to the driver by chance and hopes they see by placing those info on some computer screens or outside track perimeters where you least expect a driver would focus and look and you hope for the best the driver sees it… you expect drivers to react, relay it to the drivers in a clever and definitive ways… like an overboard/bridge style LED SCREENs, or somewhere more logical like before corners closer to edge where drivers would most likely be and not some 50 meters away outside of a corner! Lane closures usually relayed to drivers well in advance, not in a sign board in the last corner before the lane close… SC signs are everywhere, why the pit lane close signs in the middle of last corner?

Two drivers couldn’t follow the rules, the rest did.

Kudos to Gasly, what a way to eek out a result, such karma after the Red Bull days. Stroll stuffed it (what a surprise), was his race to lose. All we need to do is throw the Mercedes to the back of the grid every race 😂 Nice try to Sainz, so close, and Norris? pfft, lost credibility with me for that space creating “lock up” at the pit entry. Sure he’s a racer and like everyone else will do whatever he can, but that’s not the way to do it…

6th September 2020, 16:18
Well that would mean Bottas ending last at every race then.

6th September 2020, 16:21
@skipgamer but Norris was ultimately cleared by the stewards, so apparently they didn’t think he was doing anything wrong.

@skipgamer he wasn’t the one locking up tho! it was perez behind him

He was probably listening to Croft who said that. Croft had on a blindfold today.

That’s why we turn up every Sunday, what a race! So happy for Gasly! F1 needed this result badly. The others fail to take the opportunity to close on Hamilton

What a race, although the SC helped matters. The first non-Mercedes, RBR, or Ferrari winner after the 2013 season-opening Australian GP won by Kimi for Lotus.

6th September 2020, 16:20
I was hoping Kimi would win to bookend his own stat, but this is such a great result. Who doesn’t like a redemption story?

Netflix will have to turn Albon x Gasly into a separate series!

Netflix must be loving this! I heard a rumor they are with Ferrari this weekend. What a terrible weekend for them!

Albon can’t deliver for sure. They should swap him for Kvyat. Or as another option let both Gasly and Kvyat 4 races in Red Bull this year.
Rapid
6th September 2020, 16:28
I think Gasly is clearly the answer over Kvyat.
regs (@regs)
6th September 2020, 16:54
Kvyat was faster this race on hard and was holded by Gasly on soft. Gasly only won thank to two safety cars.

6th September 2020, 16:47
Or perhaps with a level head you’d realize the car isnt as easy or well balanced as the previous year. Even Max has had trouble and said the car is temperamental at times. But yeah let’s let freak situations override proper judgement.

6th September 2020, 17:14
Swap him for any of those and see how they struggle to qualify within half a second of Max.

I would not want to drive that red bull. It looks a nightmare. Gasly is probably better off where he is now.
Jere (@jerejj)
6th September 2020, 18:28
@regs Overall, better to let Albon be in the team until at least the end of this season. Next season is another matter, but better not change ‘during’ this season anymore.

Brilliant race by Gasly, he thoroughly deserved that. He’s grown from strength to strength in F1.
Terrible driving by Bottas again and franlky cheapening the quality of Hams easy wins and championships.

Whoever it was that decided that Gasly was starting to hold up Kvyat and that he should pit to release Kvyat has made the greatest decision in F1 history!

It was amazing to see Torro Rosso and Gasly get the race win. Good job from Mclaren and Sainz. What a start and and what a finish. A horror show from Ferrari and Red Bull never really looked competitive. A shame for Mercedes to mess up. I have said so before and have will say it again…Bottas needs to go. And Kimi…he is still damn quick and has such a level head in close battles.

Ban Mercedes and we will have races like this.
MagillaGorilla (@magillagorilla)
6th September 2020, 16:51
Guess you forgot RBR will be there to pick up the pieces and dominate with Max. Or Ferrari when they find form again which they will. Not sure why people knee jerk so hard after these events. Status quo will return in seven days and everyone will be back to rating races at 6 or 7 at best

It’s nice to have one of these crazy races at least once per season. So happy for Gasly and Sainz. Wasn’t sure who I wanted to win at the end but hopefully Sainz will get another chance in his Ferrari days. The Hamilton penalty will be a big talking point. Probably the only option open to the stewards but to lose a 10+ second lead and end up 30 behind last place was very harsh for a mistake which didn’t impact his race position at all. I thought the stewarding was actually very poor. Why on earth they didn’t just roll the Haas back under a VSC is beyond me. Nice to have some enjoyment and excitement for the lead again. A bit artificial but F1 has now decided it’s no longer a sport. May as well push for more entertainment.

Gasly and Kvyat were garbage in the Red Bull. So why would anyone think it’s just about Albon now. Albon qualified .3s off verstappen and it’s not like verstappen was storming to the front before his failure. The car wasn’t there and he had damage, albeit self inflicted.

What on earth was wrong with Bottas? Awful start, unable to pass anyone. Looked like he was driving a totally different Mercedes to Hamilton.
AliceD (@aliced)
6th September 2020, 17:22
I think he picked up some damage in the first corner, but yes even so it does seem like he did badly.
DaveW (@dmw)

Not defending him, because that was poor work. But the Mercedes seems very marginal on cooling. Even Hamilton had keep out the draft when he was coming though the field.

Great fun to see the midfielders up there. So close between them too. I hope this is a glimpse of F1 in the future.
