It’s not race week – but we’ve got another classic encounter from the archive which you might have missed the first time around.
Alexander Albon, George Russell and Charles Leclerc shared the podium places in yesterday’s Virtual Grand Prix. They also shared a track exactly five years earlier. The trio crossed paths throughout their junior careers, including in 2015 when they raced in European Formula 3. Russell and Leclerc scored their first wins in the opening triple-header race weekend at Silverstone.
The second round took place at the Hockenheimring, and the track was awash for their final encounter of the weekend. Felix Rosenqvist had swept pole position for all three races, while Leclerc lined up alongside him. In the packed 34-car field Alexander Albon was 13th and Russell only 24th after being hit by a rival in qualifying.
Two other future F1 drivers were in the field – Lance Stroll, fourth on the grid, and Antonio Giovinazzi, sixth. But after the race started behind the Safety Car it soon became all about the drivers who shared the front row, and a nervy battle between the pair in very tricky conditions.

- Watch: Four title dramas at the Circuit de Catalunya
- Watch: The DTM shows how small tracks can produce big action

- Watch Norris’s passing masterclass at the Red Bull Ring
The disruption has had a huge effect on us at RaceFans. Find out more in this short video from the editor:

A nicely timed pick with the lovely fight between Albon and Leclerc in the virtual race, with Russel hounding them for the podium too.
