Grosjean: “No rational explanation” for practice spin

2018 Spanish Grand Prix

Romain Grosjean says he is pleased with the balance of his car but is mystified by his spin at the beginning of second practice.

“We’ve got no idea,” said Grosjean when asked about the spin. “At the minute there is no rational explanation. It’s a bit of a strange one.”

The Haas driver was able to rejoin the session later on and eventually set the seventh-fastest time behind the Mercedes, Ferraris and Red Bulls.

Despite the setback Grosjean said he was largely pleased with his car’s handling.

“The whole session the car was very much on the nose on the entry of the corner,” he said. “I’ve been complaining about understeer [before], here there’s no more understeer which is good but we just need to understand how to make the car a bit more stable on entry then I can attack the corner a bit harder.

“But generally even so the first run we went out and the second run was quite competitive. The long run was OK so looking forward to tomorrow.”

Grosjean is confident the team can repeat its ‘best of the rest’ position tomorrow.

“I think the feeling is pretty good and we know where to work on the car to get it better. It wasn’t the lap of the year so hopefully we’ll stay where we are with both cars.”

He is on his way out at the end of this season! Haas is becoming attractive proposition as midfield team! They can surely find someone better than moaning and mistake prone Grosjean for next year! Enjoy while you can Mr. Grosjean!

  3. What are they actually telling him down at Haas? He doesnt know what caused the spin? Do the team just sugarcoat him or are they scared of telling the truth – the truth being it’s his stupid mistake, just like it was in Baku.

The only thing I’m mystified about is his total denial of accepting responsability for his mistakes. Sounds like someone needs a cold hard dose of honesty for a change

  4. Cringeworthy.

  5. Leclerc will be in this team next year, I’m certain.

    1. If he beats Ericsson, otherwise he’ll join Nasr and Wherlein.

  6. Which leaves only an “irrational” explanation?

  7. Man.. I really like Romain.. but he’s kind of ridiculous t times.

Man up. Take ownership. You spun the car. Not every thing can be blamed on something else.

    1. I presumed from the headline that the practice spin was practicing for a spin in the race.

    2. Its funny how a driver who is actually quite quick can ruin his reputation among fans, and possibly teams, with a poor attitude. Damn Grosjean, don’t turn into a has-been.

      1. Hopefully no-one will make a pun about RoGro being a Haas-been.

  8. I did chuckle at his “Oh, fudge” – he’s now so certain that FOM will broadcast his radio messages that he’s self-censoring!
