Sergio Perez will remain at Force India in 2016, the team has confirmed.

Perez said the announcement “means I can simply focus on the important stuff – driving the car and scoring points for the team”.

“Since coming here I’ve really grown as a driver and I feel I’m performing at my best. I’ve always said I want to establish myself in a team and it’s the right moment to announce my commitment for the future with Sahara Force India.”

Perez joined Force India at the beginning of last season after leaving McLaren. Team principal Vijay Mallya said Perez has “done a fantastic job for us already and when we give him a competitive car we know he can get the job done”.

“He’s also got a great attitude and never gives up – it’s that fighting spirit which fits well with this team. You only have to look at his results in the last three races to see that he is performing at the top of his game.

“It’s an exciting time for Sergio, especially with the upcoming race in Mexico next month, and with our close connections to the country I’m sure it will be a highlight for everybody in the team.”

Force India will have an unchanged driver line-up next season, have previously confirmed Nico Hulkenberg will also remain with the team.

  1. Hopefully one of the teams clauses is that he has to remove that face fluff.

  2. They make a good team I think, and Perez has been getting better and better over the last few years.

He might want to thank McLaren for liberating him from the embarrasament he would have faced this years. During his Force India time, Perez has been able to rack up much more points and even podiums than what the whole McLaren Team has achieved during the same time.

Well… I should have checked the stats about 2014, but definitely 2015 in a Force India is better than in a MockLaren

      1. MockLaren sounds about right.

  4. I thought his career was done after McLaren dropped him so late in 2013. He’s done a great job reviving himself. A solid midfield driver occasionally capable of brilliance.

    1. I always found McLaren treated him unfairly and it was more because Button didn’t really liked him than anything else why he had to go.

  5. I1m glad to this.

  6. Happy to see he’s staying and not going to Renault/Lotus/Quantum/phantom team

  7. >>>> Maldonado

  8. Good decision for both sides, it important for team development that there is understanding between the drivers and the team and both drivers seemed eager to stay and the team boss eager to keep them which is a good sign.

  9. Checo has matured well so far; with SFI he’s consistently delivered points especially in season’s second-halves, taken podiums for the team, produced some exciting races and market-ability for his sponsors (which, is neither assured nor easy and perhaps as tough as a good drive).

If SFI can translate position/points into cash and into performance, it’ll be great to see Checo and Hulk as leading the midfied with solid cars. All around likable team and driver pairing.

VJM -more specifically, his tax position- is maybe the wildest wild-card SFI wants to manage well.
