Words just don’t do justice to how fortunate Stephane Ortelli was to survive this crash in the Le Mans Series race at Monza today. And the same goes for Allan McNish whose Audi R10 was missed by the flying ORECA Courage by mere centimetres.

Ortelli lost control of his car on approach to the first chicane and flipped into the air. He flew over McNish’s car and rolled several times before coming to a halt.

Ortelli suffered a broken ankle in the smash and was taken to hospital. Pedro Lamy and Stephane Sarrazin of Peugeot won the race which was delayed for a long time as the aftermath of the wreckage was cleared.
